Mastitis :
Painful inflammation of the breast in females due to any kind of infection caused by bacteria like (Staphylococcus and Agalactiae) is known as Mastitis. In appearance, it looks like an enlarged, red, and swollen shape. Symptoms like fever, discomfort, tiredness, and pain during breastfeeding. Overproduction of milk results in inflammation of the breast(Mastitis) and infection by bacteria that can lead to abscess formation. This pus-filled breast may become harmful to the infant during breastfeeding and can cause the spread of infection. This can be detected through the physical exam and ultrasound. To treat Mastitis, antibiotics (dicloxacillin, cephalexin) are prescribed along with painkillers to reduce the infection while breastfeeding the baby and relieve the condition within 10 to 14 days in the severe condition of Mastitis. Surgery is needed to drain the abscesses from the breast. Staying hydrated, keeping the breast clean and pumping excess milk can help reduce the risk of Mastitis.
