Hernia :

Hernia is an abnormal protrusion of the abdominal contents into a space in the anterior abdominal wall called the inguinal canal, due to a weakness of the abdominal muscles. Smoking, obesity, chronic lung disease, pregnancy, or other conditions that increase the pressure inside the abdomen can lead to the development of a hernia. Most inguinal hernias present as visible swelling or bulges in the groin region and may or may not be accompanies with pain. Complications of untreated hernias include bowel obstruction, infection and strangulation which are medical emergencies and require immediate surgical intervention.
