Head Injury :

Head injury can be defined as trauma to the head or brain , which can be classified into various types based on severity (from minor concussion to diffuse axonal injury) , mechanism and location. it can occur due to trauma, fall, accidents, physical assault, sports injuries, shaken baby syndrome etc,. They can cause concussion, contusion, lacerations, skull fracture, intracranial hemorrhage, DAI (diffuse axonal injury) etc, Head injury can be diagnosed by neurological and imaging techniques that include cognitive , motor and sensory functions and CT scan (helps in evaluating skull fractures, bleeding etc.,) , MRI , x-rays etc.

Mild injuries can be managed with observation and monitoring . It is important to seek medical advice if the person after having the head injury has severe headache or dizziness, confusion or loss of consciousness , nausea or vomiting, weakness or numbness in the face or extremities , difficulty in speaking or swallowing, seizures or convultions , blood or fluid leaking from nose or ears after a trauma. Each case of head injury is treated based on the symptoms and level of injury.
