Diarrhoea :
A person is said to have diarrhoea, if they pass loose or watery stools during bowel movement. Diarrhoea is categorized into several types, namely, persistent diarrhoea, acute diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea. Infections of the gastrointestinal tract are the primary cause of diarrhoea. Diarrhoea is also caused by norovirus that causes gastroenteritis. The consumption of contaminated foods or drinks which cause food poisoning also results in diarrhoea. The other causative factors of diarrhoea include consumption of foods that upset the digestive system such as lactose products, diseases such as crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and certain medications. Diarrhoea, sometimes is also accompanied by other presenting complains like bloating, cramps in the belly, strong and urgent need to pass stool, nausea, fever, severe pain,vomiting, blood or mucus in the stool and weight loss. The management of diarrhoea involves taking medications like antibiotics or anti parasitics to treat the infection, probiotics to improve the gut bacteria and medication to treat chronic conditions which are causing diarrhoea.
