Geriatric Physician :
A geriatric physician refers to a specialized medical doctor who undergoes extensive training to identify and treat the health conditions of old age adults above 65 years of age. To become a geriatric physician, one has to obtain an MBBS degree from a reputed medical college, followed by pursuing Masters Degree in Geriatric Medicine. A wide range of complains are addressed in older people by a geriatric physician including functional decline in older people like fecal or urinary incontinence, mobility, nutrition and weight management disorders, stiffness, cognitive impairment seen in dementia, Alzheimer's disease, imbalances and falls, osteoporosis, diabetes, mental health problems like anxiety, depression sleep disorders, along with palliative care and support. By physically examining the patient, taking their medical history and conducting appropriate diagnostic tests like lab tests and imaging tests, geriatric physicians offer comprehensive care involving patient education, recommending lifestyle changes to improve the overall health outcomes of the patient.
