Lap Appendectomy :
Appendectomy is procedure where appendix is removed through a laparoscopic method. Appendectomy is an emergency condition where the appendix might burst, or rupture and it requires a surgical intervention as it might spread infection if left untreated. Investigations which might be suggested before appendectomy are basic blood investigations, ultrasound abdomen, CT or MRI. Laparoscopic appendectomy is done by making small incisions through which surgeons pass a laparoscope which will allow them to have a clear view on the screen. They then tie off the appendix with sutures using other instruments and detach it from the colon and remove it. Some of the complications of a lap appendectomy are bleeding, wound infection, injury to the adjacent organs, and difficulty in passing the bowels. A patient might need to spend 2-3 days post operatively in the hospital and will be discharged with minimal scars. Life- style modifications, restrictions on lifting heavy weights, avoiding wearing tight clothes would be suggested to the patient during post operative period for a few weeks.
