ACL Repair :

ACL repair is a procedure, carried out on a patient whose anterior cruciate ligament or ACL tore. This particular ligament is critical for stabilizing the knee well. The injuries of ACL are common and usually occur due to an unstable knee during sudden stops, jumps, or quick changes in direction. Patients usually complain of knee pain, swelling, and even difficulties walking.

Primary causes include overstretching and a sudden hit on the knee. The patient also experiences popping sounds, pain, swelling, and instability. The surgeon may replace the ligament with a graft, either taken from within the body like from another location in the patient or from a donor, which is an allograft. Expectation would be on a return to the prior level of activity between six months to one year following physical therapy that would involve strengthening and restoration of motion in the knee. In some cases, it may depend on the degree of activity or gross instability of the patient. A necessity for surgery should be recommended for active patients or gross instability of the knee. Patients who are less active may only necessitate non-surgical treatments.
