Cataract :

Cataract is a optical condition which causes clouding of the vision which can develop in one or both the eyes. It can congenital or acquired depending on the age of occurrence and acquired cataract can be nuclear cataract, cortical cataract or posterior sub capsular cataract. The common cause of cataract is elderly age due to breaking and clumping of proteins present in the eye resulting in cloudy layer formation before the cornea. Family history of cataract and people with conditions like diabetes, excess use of steroids, eye injury, tobacco smoking, prolonged sun exposure are at high risk of developing cataract.

Diagnosis can be done by tests such as visual acuity test, using pupil dilators to examine the posterior part of eye, slit lamp examination. Treatment of cataract is surgical removal of the cataract.
