Cataract :
Cataracts are cloud-like areas that form on the lens of the eye and affect the vision. It forms due to the breakdown of proteins in the lens, mainly in older people. Symptoms of cataracts include vision that is cloudy, blurry, foggy, and filmy, colors that may look faded, sensitivity to bright sunlight and headlights, difficulty seeing at night, changes in vision, needing a brighter light to read, and double vision. Risk factors for cataracts are air pollution, smoke from tobacco, alcohol, industrial chemicals, pesticides, long-term exposure to UV light, history of radiation therapy, medical factors like diabetes, glaucoma, using corticosteroids and eye diseases like uveitis, and mutation in the genes. Cataracts can be diagnosed by a comprehensive eye exam followed by a slit lamp exam and visual acuity test.
