Medical Oncologist :
A medical oncologist is a specialist who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of cancers through medications like chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and immunotherapy. The medical oncologists are specialized in hematology and deal with blood disorders; they are called hematologists. A medical oncologist is qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by a post-graduation in MD. Further, they specialize in DM in medical oncology. The cancers that will be treated by a medical oncologist will be leukemia, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal cancer, ovarian cancer, melanoma, and kidney cancer. When there are symptoms due to cancer, like persistent fever, a feeling of a lump, pain, or unexplained weight loss, one should consult a medical oncologist. A medical oncologist will advise some diagnostic tests to diagnose the cancers, such as CT scan, tumor marker tests, blood tests, PET scan, MRI scan, urine analysis, biopsies, and ultrasound scan, and based on the reports, the treatment plan for cancer will be made.
