Goniotomy :

Goniotomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to correct congenital glaucoma in children by lowering fluid accumulation and IOP (intraocular pressure). This procedure can also manage other multiple forms of glaucoma except angle closure glaucoma. This procedure is carried out under anesthesia and the surgeon makes a slit on the corneal layer to insert the surgical tool on the anterior chamber. It is followed by careful placing of gonioscopic lens and making necessary cuts in the membranes to regulate the intraocular fluids. This typical procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes and the surgeon removes the surgical tool and provides a shield to cover it. Patient needs to be compliant with post surgical medications and instructions to avoid critical risks and maximize recovery.
