One has to pursue a bachelor's in medicine followed by a master's degree and do a super specialization or fellowship or a diploma course in haematology. There are several types of haematology, which include adult haematology, pediatric haematology, coagulation, and haematology. Haematologists diagnose and treat diseases related to blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. Some of the diseases a haematologist treats include anaemia, sickle cell anaemia, hemophilia, thalassemia, leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Most commonly, a haematologist would prefer advice on blood investigations like complete blood picture, prothrombin time, reticulocyte count, and peripheral blood smear. Hematologist treats their patients with bone marrow transplantation, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and blood transfusions.
