Haematologist :
A hematologist, also called as a bone marrow specialist, is a medical doctor who is qualified and has expertise in managing the diseases affecting the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system. To become a hematologist, one should complete five and half years of graduation and obtain an MBBS degree from a reputed medical college, followed by pursuing post graduation or MD in General Medicine and additionally super specialize in Hematology. A wide range of diseases are addressed by a hematologist including benign blood disorders like von Willebrand disease, anemia, especially iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, and thalassemia and common types of blood cancers like lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. Hematologists evaluate the patient's condition and diagnose a blood disorder by running investigations like complete blood count (CBC), prothrombin time test (PTT), blood differential test, peripheral blood smear (PBS), reticulocyte count and more blood investigations to diagnose for blood cancer.
