Radial angioplasty is a radial artery approach used to perform diagnostic or surgical angioplasty. It is a technique of insertion of a flexible catheter into the radial artery in the arms, under guidance of x-ray monitoring and detecting the blood clots or blockage from fatty deposits in carotid artery by injecting dyes. At the opposite end of the catheter, a deflated balloon is present which will become inflated at the site of blockage or stenosis after injecting contrast fluid through the catheter. This technique helps in the opening of the narrowed and restricted part of the blood vessel. Sometimes, even a mesh-like material/stent is present surrounding the balloon which keeps the opened blood vessel intact after the procedure.
