Lumbar Spondylosis
Lumbar spondylosis is a condition that affects the vertebral bones in the lower back and the soft cartilaginous discs between them, along with new bone growth in the affected vertebrae. Lumbar spondylosis is age related and the worn out intervertebral discs cause the bones to be in close proximity to each other causing stiffness, pain, and movement limitations. If the nerves passing through the vertebrae get compressed then symptoms such as tingling, leg muscle weakness, and problems with coordination and walking may also occur. Aging, back injuries, genetic factors, and smoking increase the risk of lumbar spondylosis. Treatment of lumbar spondylosis usually involves medications for the relief of symptoms, physiotherapy, and in more advanced cases surgical procedures.
