Insulin Pump is a wearable medical device that is programmed to deliver insulin continuously throughout the day in addition to extra doses at meal times, to maintain consistent levels of blood sugar in individuals with diabetes who are on insulin therapy. The advantages of an insulin pump are that it delivers more accurate doses of insulin when compared to syringes, it helps in the long term maintenance of blood sugar, and the sudden drop in blood sugar levels is controlled to a very large extant. The disadvantages are that they are more expensive, require a bit of training to be used, need consistent monitoring of blood sugar levels to check that the pump is working.
