Dr. Suma received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad, and her Diploma in Gynecology and Obstetrics from Mysore Medical College, Mysore. She then pursued her Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Jagadguru Jayadeva Murugarajendra Medical College (JJMMC), Davangere, Karnataka.
