Coronary Angiogram / Angiography :
The coronary angiogram, or cardiac catheterization, is a procedure that is primarily used to identify blockages and narrowing of the coronary arteries in the heart. This heart exam can only be performed in a special lab that is similar to an operating theatre. This lab is known as a cardiac catheterization laboratory or a cath lab for short. The procedure involves passing a slim catheter, which is a hollow tube, through the widest artery in the body called the aorta. The tube is inserted into the body via a small hole in the groin or the wrist. The gradual insertion stops only when the catheter reaches the coronary arteries. Then, a unique contrast dye is injected into the area, and a dynamic X-ray is captured. This technique allows for a proper visualization of the heart's functioning.
