Radiation Oncologist :
A radiation oncologist is a specialized cancer doctor who offers radiation therapy to patients suffering from cancer. Radiation therapy uses doses of high energy radiation to kill cancer cells. A wide variety of cancers are treated by a radiation oncologist, including bone cancer, lung cancer, cancers of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, neurological), head and neck cancers, liver cancer, breast cancer and leukemia. Radiation therapy, given by a radiation oncologist, involves locating the exact position of the tumor and then delivering radiation using external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) or internal beam radiation therapy (IBRT). Radiation oncologists collaborate with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and other doctors to tailor the treatment plan for the cancer patients and thus offer extensive care to them. Radiation oncologists also take care of side effects experienced by a patient post radiation such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, diarrhea, headaches, hair loss, mouth sores, skin irritation, abdominal bloating, etc.
