Lap Appendectomy :
The appendix is a small tube-like organ that is present at the beginning of the large intestine. The appendix can become infected or swell up and cause pain, vomiting, nausea and other symptoms. In such cases, the appendix needs to be surgically removed from the body with a procedure called a laparoscopic appendectomy. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, which means that the patient is asleep during the procedure. Tiny cuts are made in the abdomen and a camera is inserted into one of the cuts. The surgeon can then clearly see inside the abdomen and insert tiny surgical instruments into the abdomen via the other cuts. Finally, the appendix is gently disconnected and removed from one of the cuts. Most patients are discharged on the same day or the day after the procedure. However, if the appendix had burst open before the operation, then the hospital stay would have been much longer.
