Imperforate Anus :
Imperforate Anus is the condition when there is the absence of an opening in the anus, thus blocking the passage of stools. The exact cause for the imperforate anus is unknown, it may be due to opening into other structures, the rectum may not connect with the colon, and it may be due to the narrowing of the anus or the complete absence of the anus. Imperforate anus mainly occurs due to abnormal development of the fetus. The symptoms of this condition can be babies don't pass their first stool within 24 to 48 hours of birth, in baby girls, anal opening will be closer to vagina, swollen abdomen, missing opening in the anus. This imperforate anus is treated by performing surgery. There are three types of surgeries which depend on the severity of the condition such as temporary colostomy, surgical opening is done in the colon to pass the stool, anoplasty, enlargement of opening in the anus, pull-through surgery, in which the rectum is moved to the normal place and creates a new opening in the anus.
