Gastroenterologist :
Gastroenterologists are doctors who are specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract. These specialists are experts in treating problems in the food pipe, stomach, liver, and intestines, among other parts of the gastrointestinal tract.
It takes several years of additional education and training for an MBBS doctor to become a gastroenterologist. A gastroenterologist must have an MD in Internal Medicine followed by a DM in Gastroenterology or similar qualifications. Gastroenterologists are best known as the doctors who treat gastric reflux disease, anal fissures, peptic ulcers, colon polyps and inflammatory bowel disease. Some other problems that these specialists treat are liver disorders, hemorrhoids, appendicitis and enlarged spleen. These specialists usually treat their patients with medications. However, in some cases, they may diagnose and treat their patients by performing procedures like sigmoidoscopy, upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.
