UTI :
UTI is short for urinary tract infection. As the name suggests, it is an infection in the urinary tract, which comprises the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. UTIs occur more in females than in males. An individual affected by a UTI will experience swelling in the urinary tract. The swelling can result in pain and pressure in the abdomen and pelvic area. It can also cause symptoms like frequent urination, foul-smelling urine, pain during urination and blood in the urine. Other possible symptoms include fever, nausea, tiredness and confusion.
A urinary tract infection is diagnosed with an analysis of the urine. A doctor may also order an ultrasound, a CT scan, or a cystoscopy to provide an accurate diagnosis. In most cases, the condition is treated with antibiotics. However, other medications may be required depending on the underlying cause.
