Premature Ejaculation :
Premature ejaculation refers to a type of sexual dysfunction in men, and is described as a person has orgasm and ejaculates shortly after penetration during intercourse. The factors responsible for causing premature ejaculation include psychological causes like performance anxiety, stress, relationship problems, depressive thoughts, poor self esteem, physical causes and chemical causes like erectile dysfunction, hormonal problems involving oxytocin levels, low serotonin or dopamine levels, a penis that is extra sensitive to stimulation and an inflamed prostate. Thyroid disorders, substance use disorders, chronic pelvic pain and erectile dysfunction are also responsible for causing premature ejaculation. This penile condition is evaluated by a urologist through discussion with the patient. The various treatment options to deal with premature ejaculation include behavioral modification therapy methods like start and stop technique, squeeze therapy and distracted thinking method, counseling by a psychologist or a sex therapist, medications like citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline.
