Lumbar Spondylosis refers to a degenerative disc disease that is marked by wear and tear of spinal discs and joints in the lumbar region (lower spine). The symptoms induced by lumbar spondylosis include pain that radiates from the lower back into the thigh and butt muscles, pain that feels like a muscle strain in or around the lower back, and pain that worsens during physical activity and improves with rest or when the person is less active. The causative factors of lumbar spondylosis include overuse of lower back region, growth spurts and certain genetic conditions. The risk factors associated with lumbar spondylosis are high in people who are athletes who usually play contact sports such as gymnastics, football or weightlifting and kids and teens whose bodies undergo rapid changes, involving growth. The treatment plan to manage lumbar spondylosis includes taking adequate rest, over the counter pain killers, corticosteroids, physical therapy and bracing.
