kidney stone :
A kidney stone is a crystal or a solid mass that develops inside the kidneys. Such a stone is made from the salts, minerals and acids present in the kidneys. Kidney stones can be as small as a grain of salt or as large as a table tennis ball. These stones can develop at any age, but are most common in people in their 30s and 40s.
Kidney stones cause symptoms like pain in the sides, blood in the urine, fever, pain during urination and foul-smelling urine. The diagnosis of this condition involves tests such as an ultrasound scan, CT scan, a urine test, and blood tests. Small kidney stones usually do not require treatment. If kidney stones are small but causing symptoms, then medicines may be prescribed to help them pass. However, if large kidney stones are present, a procedure may be performed to break the stones or remove them from the body.
