Deafness :
Deafness is characterized by complete loss of hearing, and some people become deaf at later stages of life, while others are born deaf. The presenting complaints of deafness are only hearing noises in the ears, like ringing, buzzing, and hissing sounds. Deaf people find it difficult to respond to a person when spoken to, have trouble understanding a conversation, and react to loud noises. The factors responsible for causing deafness are when there is an abnormal growth of the tiniest bones in the middle ear, damage to the cochlear nerve in the inner ear, exposure to loud noise, certain medical conditions, certain medications, and also problems with the nerve between the brain and cochlear nerve. The risk factors of deafness are high in those who work in a noisy environment and those who have been exposed to loud tools and machinery. The treatment methods to manage deafness include hearing aids, cochlear implants, and bone conduction hearing aids.
