Chemoport :
A chemoport or a chemotherapy port, refers to an implanted device under the skin that is connected to a vein with the help of a thin silicone tube. Chemoports aid by making chemotherapy comfortable, safe, and convenient, reducing the need for needle sticks for blood draws, infusions, and injections, and reducing the risk of tissue damage. Single lumen port and double lumen port are the two types of chemoports available. Chemoport comprises of mainly three parts such as port, septum and catheter and is placed under the skin surgically. The complications induced by this chemoport placement surgery include thrombosis, mechanical issues, movement limitations, scarring and infection signs such as pain, inflammation and fever. After the insertion of a chemoport, the patient should consult their doctor immediately if they develop severe pain, bruising, or swelling around the port, drainage coming out of the chemoport, or skin discoloration around the port.
