Alcoholic Liver Disease :
Alcoholic liver disease is a chronic liver condition that occurs due to excessive consumption of alcohol. It can be as mild as fatty liver or as dangerous as alcoholic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. There are various factors, such as general and inherited conditions, amount of alcohol intake, and total period of consumption, which determine the extent of the disease. The collection of excess amounts of alcohol in the cells of the liver, making them fatty and swollen, is called fatty liver. The serious type of alcoholic liver disease is alcoholic hepatitis, which induces symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Alcoholic liver cirrhosis is a serious, life threatening condition where the healthy tissues of the liver are replaced with scar tissue. Alcoholic liver disease in the advanced stages presents various complaints like jaundice, swelling of legs and ankles, and abdominal pain, causing further complications such as liver failure and portal hypertension. The treatment methods to deal with alcoholic liver disease include medical management and liver transplant.
