Thoracic Surgeon :
A thoracic surgeon refers to a qualified surgeon who operates on the organs of the thoracic region or chest region, including the heart, lungs, and esophagus. To certify as a thoracic surgeon, one has to complete five and half years of graduation in MBBS, followed by post graduation in General Surgery, followed by super specialization in Thoracic Surgery. A thoracic surgeon manages a wide range of medical conditions such as emphysema, COPD, cystic fibrosis, congenital lung malformations, dysphagia, pneumothorax, tracheal stenosis, diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary fibrosis, congenital lung malformations, esophageal diverticulum, esophageal cancer, esophageal strictures, hiatal hernia, Barrett's esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), thoracic aortic aneurysm, interstitial lung disease, thoracic outlet syndrome, endobronchial tumor, pulmonary fibrosis, mesothelioma and pectus carinatum. They also offer other surgical treatments such as minimally invasive procedures like thoracoscopic surgeries to correct the above defects, lung resections, diaphragmatic plication, chest wall reconstruction and airway reconstruction.
