Hepatitis B is an infectious disease caused by the Hepatitis B virus affecting the liver leading to both acute and chronic infection. In Majority of Hepatitis B cases, patients do not show any symptoms in the initial stages, although they develop certain symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, yellowish discoloration of the skin, fatigue, dark urine, and abdominal pain in later stages of the disease.
This condition is commonly spread from mother to child at child birth, needlestick injury, tattooing, piercing and exposure to infected fluids and sexual transmission - a more common mode of transmission. There is no specific treatment for hepatitis B infection, however certain medications aid to manage the condition and it can be prevented with a HBV vaccine.
