A Chalazion is described as a swelling on the eyelid region. This is usually seen as a lump that is not painful well above the lash line. The oil glands that are present in the eyelid skin become clogged and result in the swelling.
Chalazion are frequently seen in adults on both upper and lower eyelids rather than in children. These might cause some irritation to the skin around the eyes but typically are gone by themselves. Home remedies such as application of warm compress can help unclog the oil glands. Clearing the eyelids regularly and maintaining eye hygiene prevents recurrence of Chalazia.
