Scabies :
Scabies is a contagious skin rash caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei, commonly affecting children. The presenting complaints of scabies are intense itching, which worsens at night and makes it hard to sleep, burrowing tracks or bumps that are observed as raised, skin colored lines and sores or painful bumps which may get infected because of scratching. These mites infect in the folds in between the fingers and toes, bends at the wrists and knees, folds in the thighs and genital region, under the rings, under fingernails, in the region around the nipples, watch bands and bracelets and area around the waist. The treatment approach to manage scabies involves taking medications like ivermectin, antibiotics and steroid creams, antihistamines, topical lotions and ointments. Scabies affects majorly in people who live in crowded conditions, elderly people, infants and children, mainly those who live in nursing homes, people with weakened immune system and sexually active people.
