Grave's disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism i.e over activity of thyroid gland. It is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid glands, marked with symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, diarrhea,irritability, muscle weakness,sleeping problems, increased heart rate, heat intolerance, eye bulging, and pretibial myxedema- thickening of the skin. Although the specific cause of the condition is unclear, it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Individuals with family history, having an affected twin, physical & emotional stress, Type 1 &Type 2 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis are more vulnerable to experience the disease. Treatment of Grave's disease include a combination of medications, surgery and radio-iodine therapy.
