Herpes :
Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). It has 2 variants such as HSV-1/oral herpes, which predominantly causes oral cold sores and fever blisters; HSV-2/genital herpes which mainly cause genital sores. Both of these variants may simultaneously cause genital herpes and oral herpes to a small extent. They spread readily through direct skin contact with infected person, sexual contact with genital or oral fluids like semen or saliva, through shared items. Herpes infection causes periods of outbreaks depending on the underlying triggers and are controlled with antiviral medications. It is evaluated by a general physician or a specialist who monitors the condition with scheduled follow-up appointments. Following safe sex practices, undergoing routine screening of STIs and avoidance of direct contact with open sores or blisters can help in prevention of this infection.
