Corneal ulcer is a sore on the corneal surface of the eye. It is commonly seen in individuals with poor maintenance of contact lens, diabetes, and other underlying eye diseases, who has shingles or dry eyes. Injury or trauma to cornea, and infections of all origins such as bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic may cause corneal ulcers. It is examined by slit lamp microscope, application of fluorescein dye to the cornea to determine the extent of damage, and tissue cultures. These ulcers are routinely managed with help of topical applicants/antibiotic drops such as ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin.
