During the initial stages of appendicitis, a child may experience pain near the belly button or around the lower right side of the abdomen. This pain might come and go and then grows more intense in form. Some of the other symptoms associated with appendicitis in children are low grade fever, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, and loss of appetite. When left untreated, there are greater chances that the infected appendix might rupture, leading to the spread of bacteria inside the belly, along with the accumulation of pus. Thus, the sooner the appendicitis in children is detected and treated, the better it is for the child.
