Milk allergy in children is referred to as lactose intolerance as per medical terminology. It is an unusual anaphylatic reaction by immune system caused due to consumption of milk or milk derived products. It is characterized by hives, wheezing cough, skin allergy symptoms, and shortness of breath. There are enzymatic reactions with casein and whey present in milk. It is diagnosed by either skin or blood test. In some cases, the allergist may even refer for a food challenge program, in which the recipient is introduced to small quantities of milk gradually to build milk tolerance.
