Eclampsia is a critical life threatening condition in pregnant woman often followed by Pre eclampsia, a hypertensive disorder in pregnancy. This condition is marked with the onset of seizures resulting in loss of consciousness and agitation. Most women experience premonitory symptoms before the initial seizure i.e they develop hypertension, while other symptoms include, photophobia, frontal headaches mental disturbances, abdominal pain and visual disturbances.
Besides having a high blood pressure, individuals bearing twins or triplets, first pregnancy, diabetes, kidney disease and being younger than 20 or older than 35 are more vulnerable to experience this condition. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition, however delivering the placenta or baby are considered to be the ideal treatment approaches.
