Clavicle fracture is known as broken collarbone in layman terms. Collarbones are bilateral bony structures that connect shoulders to upper chest area. They are most common type of adult bone fractures, evidently seen in cases of motor vehicle injury, sport's injury or traumatic falls. It can be either comminuted fracture or displaced type of fracture.
It is characterized by some classic features such as sharp pain which worsens with movement of the upper limbs, snapping noise when the bone breaks, associated with bump or bony protrusion, redness and swelling with bruises, numbing sensation and difficulty with movement. It is examined and investigated with the help of x-rays, CT scans or ultrasounds. It can be managed with pain killers/NSAIDs to reduce pain and inflammation of the broken collarbone area. It shows improvement with support , bandage and weight bearing after the completion of required sessions of physical therapy.
