Cervical Spondylosis is a degenerative condition of the cervical vertebrae. It can also be described as neck arthritis. There are small discs that are present in between each vertebrae. These are responsible for mobility of the spine. As one ages, the discs either shrink in size or loose fluid leading to mobility issues. When these discs that are responsible for easy mobility between vertebrae shrink, there is a lot of increased friction between the bones. This leads to over growths on the vertebrae called growth spurs.
These conditions in combination lead to narrowing of the canal that houses the spine. There is nerve compression in the cervical region that causes symptoms like neck stiffness and pain. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Muscle relaxants and Corticosteroids can be given for neck pain in Cervical Spondylosis. Spinal surgery is required in severe cases.
