Ptosis :

Ptosis is also termed as blepharoptosis. It is a condition where the individual experiences drooping of the upper eye lids. Ptosis can affect one or both the eyes. It results from dysfunction of the muscles which are primarily responsible for lifting of the eye lid commonly the levator palpebrae superioris muscle. This condition can be both congenital or acquired often caused due to aging, neurological disorders such as Horner's syndrome etc, muscular disease, and trauma.

Individual with Ptosis experience symptoms such as visual obstruction, asymmetry in the position of the eye lid and difficulty in opening of the eyelids. Management exclusively depends on the cause of the condition involving medical or surgical intervention. The primary goal of the treatment is to improve the eyelid function and appearance.
