Hysterectomy :
Removal of the uterus, along with ovaries and fallopian tubules, is known as hysterectomy. It depends on case to case scenarios. There are four types of hysterectomy, which include total hysterectomy, where the uterus and cervix are removed, leaving ovaries. Another type is supracervical hysterectomy, where only the upper part of the uterus is removed, another type includes total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy where ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubules, and cervix are removed. The last one is a radical hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy, where the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubules, ovaries, the upper part of the vagina, and lymph nodes are removed. Surgical methods of hysterectomy include vaginal hysterectomy, vaginal laparoscopic hysterectomy, abdominal laparoscopic hysterectomy and abdominal hysterectomy. Generally the procedure is safe, however some risks are involved which include injury to the other organs like urinary bladder, bleeding, infection and allergic reaction to anesthesia. Patient needs to get admitted in a hospital for 2- 3 days for a complete course of surgery.
