Ankle Fracture :
Ankle fracture is defined as a break in one or more bones of the ankle joint resulting from excessive stress, twisting or turning of the ankle or an injury. Fractures can range from tiny cracks in the bones to breaks that pierce the skin characterised by symptoms such as immediate throbbing pain, bruising, tenderness, swelling, deformity,pain or difficulty in walking or movement of the leg. X- rays are usually required to determine whether there is a broken bone as opposed to a soft-tissue injury like a sprain, while other radiology imaging such as MRI,CT- Scan is required to determine full scope of injury.Treatment is based on factors such as type of fracture,alignment of the bones and the stability of the ankle joint. Whilst the goal is to have the bones heal as closely as possible so as to prevent any malalignment or instability of the bone.
