Paediatric Oncologist :
A paediatric oncologist is a highly skilled specialist with the training to diagnose and treat cancer in minors. Paediatric oncologists work with patients who are under the age of 18. They diagnose their patients using tests like biopsy and lumbar puncture. These specialists can treat all the cancers that can develop in children including brain tumours, blood cancers, sarcomas and lymphomas. Furthermore, paediatric oncologists can treat blood disorders like unusual blood clotting and anaemia.
The qualifications of a paediatric oncologist include MBBS, MD in Paediatrics and DM in Paediatric Oncology or equivalent qualifications. Some of these specialists do a fellowship in Paediatric Hematology-Oncology rather than earning a DM degree. It is important to consult these specialists when a child experiences symptoms like fever, unexplained weight loss, swelling and weakness. Other symptoms that warrant a consultation with these specialists include speech problems, limping, changes in the gait, vision changes and balance problems.
