Interventional cardiologists :
Interventional cardiologists are expert cardiologists who use minimally invasive proceduress to treat heart diseases mainly using catheters. The most common procedure performed by an interventional cardiologist is angioplasty and stent placement to treat blockages in the vessels of the heart. Apart from this they treat several other diseases such as disease of the heart valves, Atherosclerosis, Heart attacks or Myocardial infarctions, and septal defects of atrium as well as ventricles. Before any of these procedures, blood tests and angiograms are performed to note the areas of blockage. In most of the interventional cardiology procedures, there is no incision on the chest. But, a thin flexible tube is inserted from the arms or legs to access the heart vessels. Then a wire with a balloon which is covered by a mesh wire or stent (for angioplasty specifically) is sent in to expand narrowed blood vessels.
