Neurosurgeon :
A neurosurgeon is a general surgeon who undergoes advanced training to perform surgical procedures on the nervous system and treats conditions of the nervous system, including skull, spinal disks, spinal vertebrae, blood vessels, protective membranes and soft tissues near it. The qualifications required to become a neurosurgeon would be an MBBS degree and post graduation degree or MS/ MCh in General Surgery and an additional super specialization in Neurosurgery. A wide range of surgical treatments are offered by a neurosurgeon including blood clot removal, shunt insertion, aneurysm repair, brain bleed stoppage, tumor removal, vagus nerve stimulation, trauma repair and peripheral nerve surgeries like carpal tunnel release, ulnar nerve release and also spine surgeries like spinal fusion, stereotactic spine radiosurgery, diskectomy, laminectomy and kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, spine stabilization and reconstruction. Neurosurgeon also treats some diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome, brain tumors, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, spina bifida, Chiari malformations and arachnoid cysts, essential tremor, hydrocephalus, chronic pain in the back or neck, herniated disks and intracranial aneurysms.
