UTI in Adults :
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in adults are often caused by the bacterial invasions of the urinary system which includes the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. UTI due to infectious causes affects women more commonly due to their shorter urethra. The infection can affect any organ of the urinary system depending on the underlying risk factors like older age, sexual activity ( urethra and u.bladder also known as honeymoon cystitis), spermicide use, catheter use,dementia, obstruction by stones (ureters and kidneys) ,urinary incontinence etc. The typical symptoms of UTIs in adults include burning sensation while urinating, supra pubic pain(below umbilicus), sensation of urgency to void despite having an empty bladder, cloudy urine, fever with chills, nausea, vomiting , abdominal pain etc,.Management is by identifying and treating the underlying cause ,which may include antibiotics, pain management,fever,nausea, fluid replacement and other supportive care.
