Wrist Fracture :

Wrist fracture is a break in one or more bones in the wrist joint causing disintegration of the joint. Wrist joint can be of different types based on the bone involved ie,. Colle's fracture, Smith fracture, distal radius fracture, Barton's fracture, Chauffeur's fracture etc. It can occur due to road traffic accidents,osteoporosis, sports injury and or fall on an outstretched hand(in older adults). Signs and symptoms of the wrist fracture include pain , swelling on the wrist, inability to move, numbness or tingling sensation in the fingers due to entrapment of nerves and complications like acute carpel tunnel syndrome, loss of sensation on thumb, index and middle fingers and compartment syndrome. Hence it is important to treat the fracture via braces, external fixation and open reduction internal fixation if necessary.
