VSD surgery :
VSD surgery refers to ventricular septal defect surgery and is an intervention that is used to correct the ventricular septal defect. A ventricular septal defect is a hole located in the septum or wall that separates the ventricles or lower chambers of the heart. VSD surgery is done as an open heart procedure to close the defect and also using catheter based procedure. Catheter based procedure or trans catheter procedure uses a catheter to plug the hole with a device made of synthetic material to close the defect. The open heart procedure of VSD is done by adding a patch, made of synthetic material or stitching the hole shut. VSD surgery is recommended to manage several types of ventricular septal defects such as membranous VSD, muscular VSD, outlet VSD and inlet VSD. The side effects of VSD surgery involve blood clots, infection, increased bleeding, heart block, abnormal heart rhythm and anesthesia complications.
